USDT TRC20 vs ERC20 vs Solana: Which Network Should You Accept?

Apr 28, 2026 · 5 min read

Comparing Tron, Ethereum, and Solana networks for USDT payments. Settlement times, fees, and which is best for your use case.

USDT exists on over a dozen blockchain networks, but for payment acceptance three dominate: TRC20 (Tron), ERC20 (Ethereum), and USDT-SPL (Solana). Each has different trade-offs in fees, speed, and user adoption. Here's how to choose.

Quick Comparison

  • ✓TRC20: ~$1 fee, 1–3 min settlement, highest merchant adoption
  • ✓ERC20: $2–30+ fee, 30–90 sec settlement, widely held
  • ✓Solana: <$0.01 fee, <5 sec settlement, fastest growing
  • ✓BEP20 (BSC): ~$0.10 fee, 3–5 min settlement, popular in Asia

USDT TRC20 (Tron Network)

TRC20 USDT is the de facto standard for payments. With fees consistently under $1, it's accessible for smaller transactions and widely supported by centralized exchanges (Binance, OKX, Bybit). The vast majority of crypto payment integrations use TRC20 as their default network.

When to use TRC20: almost always. If you're accepting crypto payments for the first time, start with USDT TRC20 and add other networks based on customer demand.

USDT ERC20 (Ethereum Network)

ERC20 USDT has higher fees that vary with Ethereum gas prices. During peak times fees can exceed $20, making it unsuitable for small transactions. However, ERC20 is the native standard for DeFi participants and customers who primarily use MetaMask or Ethereum-based wallets. Consider adding ERC20 if your customers are in Western markets or use DeFi platforms.

Note: Warning: Never mix networks. A customer sending ERC20 USDT to a TRC20 address will lose their funds permanently. Always clearly label which network you're requesting and validate addresses match the expected network format.

USDT on Solana

Solana's USDT (via Wormhole or native USDC) offers near-instant confirmations and negligible fees. Adoption is growing rapidly, especially among younger users and gaming communities. Solana is excellent for high-frequency small transactions and mobile-first users.

Our Recommendation by Use Case

  • ✓iGaming, VPN, hosting (subscriptions): TRC20 + BEP20
  • ✓E-commerce serving Western customers: TRC20 + ERC20
  • ✓SaaS with international audience: TRC20 + Solana
  • ✓High-volume microtransactions: Solana
  • ✓Enterprise / large invoices: any network, fees negligible at scale

Supporting Multiple Networks

Bekena supports all major USDT networks simultaneously. When creating an invoice, specify the currency (USDT_TRC20, USDT_ERC20, USDT_SOL, etc.) or let customers choose. Each invoice generates a unique address for the specified network. There is no additional fee for supporting multiple networks.
